Electrostatic Coating Technology – Detailed Process

Date post: 20-02-2025 |

Electrostatic coating technology is a surface coating method that uses dry powder paint, which is sprayed onto the material’s surface under the influence of an electric field. This process creates a durable, beautiful paint layer without the need for solvents, saving costs and being environmentally friendly. Electrostatic paint is widely used in the manufacturing and product design industries.

Working Principle of Electrostatic Coating

The working principle of electrostatic coating technology involves creating a solid coating layer on the material’s surface by using a spray gun. The powder paint is sprayed onto the material that has been electrically charged, causing the powder to adhere tightly to the surface. The material is then placed in an oven where high temperature melts the powder, forming a smooth and even coating. This process creates a strong bond between the paint and the material, providing high durability and resistance.

Electrostatic coating is a modern method that creates durable coatings resistant to environmental impacts. The electrostatic coating process is conducted in several meticulous steps to ensure product quality and durability. Below is the detailed process for creating a product with standard electrostatic coating:

Step 1: Surface Treatment of the Product

Before starting the spraying process, surface treatment of the product is crucial in electrostatic coating technology. This step removes dirt, grease, and rust, helping the powder paint adhere firmly to the material’s surface. Particularly for metal products, rust removal and cleaning are essential to ensure the coating is evenly applied and durable.

This process involves placing the product in chemical tanks following a standard procedure. These tanks include: acid tanks to remove rust, water rinse tanks, grease removal tanks, and surface conditioning chemical tanks. The product will pass through each tank in an electric hoist system to ensure thorough cleaning. Though this process takes time, it ensures high adhesion and excellent electrostatic paint quality.

Step 2: Electrostatic Coating Application

After surface treatment and complete drying of the product, the next step is electrostatic coating application. This process needs to be done in a spray booth to prevent external factors from affecting the coating quality.

There are two types of spray guns commonly used: single booth spray guns and double booth spray guns. Single booth spray guns use one spray gun, and the product to be coated is hung or hooked up. In contrast, double booth spray guns use two spray guns, and the product moves along a conveyor belt, with each spray gun covering one side of the product.

Step 3: Curing After Coating

After completing the spraying process, the product needs to be placed in an oven to ensure the coating adheres well and uniformly. The curing temperature usually ranges from 180°C to 200°C, allowing the powder to melt and bond tightly to the product. During the curing process, the product must not be moved, as this could disrupt the coating and affect its durability.

Step 4: Inspection and Final Touches

After curing, the final inspection ensures the quality of the coating. Factors such as color, gloss, uniformity of the coating, and any defects will be thoroughly checked. If any issues are found, technicians will promptly fix and improve them to ensure the product meets the highest standards. Once the inspection is complete, the product will be packaged and prepared for delivery to customers.
